VELOCITY AIRCRAFT
PLANE LIVING

Where is it being built?

The first Velocity SE kit aircraft is being built at Solent Airport, and requires an estimated 2000 man-hours to build, but once approved by the LAA they will allow the ‘Fast-build’ kit, which halves the build-time.

Whilst initially the build was done by a technical college, it became clear that this approach was costly in time and money because of mistakes made by the students, who have no experience.  Fortunately, Velocity put me onto Travis Holland who has over 30 years’ experience in building Velocity kit aircraft in the US who had never visited the UK, so he has come over with his wife for a number of ‘working holidays’ to help get the first Velocity in the UK approved by the LAA, which is expected to be ready for flight testing next year.

Once approved by the LAA, only the ‘Fast-build’ kits will be sold in the UK and Ireland because all the flight surfaces and main parts are pre-fibre glassed in the factory, which not only makes it much safer, but more likely that it will be finished and be flown by the owner.
